Welcome to the ESSD 2021 Online Conference
Welcome to the ESSD 2021 Online Conference
Welcome to the 32nd Annual Conference of the European Society for Social Drug Research (ESSD) in 2021. Given the COVID-19 pandemic and related travel restrictions, the ESSD Board and Organising Committee decided for the second time in succession to hold the annual conference as a virtual event.
The ESSD 2021 conference will take place online from 30 September to 1 October 2021. It is hosted by the Sigmund Freud Private University, Austrian Public Health Institute, University of Vienna and the University of Innsbruck.
The 32nd Annual Conference of the ESSD will focus on a variety of themes including drug market dynamics, drug policy implications and new trends in drug use. Additionally, presentations will cover challenges for knowledge and drug related implications of COVID-19.
The ESSD 2021 virtual conference will be powered by Zoom. Some rules of conduct and Zoom instructions are available here. The conference programme is divided in 60 to 80-minutes sessions, which include 3 to 4 papers. Each online presentation will last for up to 15 minutes, followed by ample time for the presenters and the audience to jointly discuss the presentations of each session. An overview of the conference abstracts is provided here. If you are having any technical difficulties with joining the Zoom sessions, please write to Emir Handžo at itsupportessd.powi@univie.ac.at.
Moerover, the Special Issue on "Drugs and Digital Technologies" with Kriminologische Journal, which emerged from the ESSD 2020 Online Conference, is out now. It was edited by Meropi Tzanetakis, University of Vienna, and Bernd Werse, Goethe University Frankfurt.
Having learned from the experience of organising last year's ESSD Annual Conference online, we would like to ask for your patience with any technical glitches occurring. Having said that, we really hope you will stay with us on board this year's experiment to recreate our conference and community online.
Looking forward to your participation and contribution.
